J.Z. George hazard
It seems strange that the coaches at J.Z. George High School do not utilize their nice athletic facilities. They have the children running on the busy public roads to get in shape (probably without their parents’ written consent).
It scares me to death that I or someone else might hit the children. No adults are with them.
Do the school board and superintendent know about this?

Cellphone subsidies
This is in response to the editor’s note on the “My Two Cents” comment about cellphone subsidies (Aug. 16):
I think you missed the point. Sure, many presidents have aided in unnecessary spending, but the lesson I took from this was not who put the program into effect but that a 6-year-old can get a free cellphone in the name of welfare.

Todd Akin
I wonder whether perhaps — or probably — Missouri Rep. Todd Akin intended a different meaning for “legitimate” than the one the media pounced on.
My dictionary gives four possible meanings for the adjective “legitimate,” in addition to “legal” (the one that is assumed to be the one he meant). The meaning that occurs to me as the most reasonable one is “real, genuine, not false.” In other words, could he be thinking of the possibility of “incomplete rape” or some other sexual procedure that didn’t amount to actual rape.

Golden Age
Regarding the article “Nursing home could lose money” (Aug. 22):
Wow! Golden Age Nursing Home, really?
But they trust to talk about other nursing facilities. Hmmm ... who’s talking now?

This is awful. Why do people go into the health profession when they could care less about others?
