Hospital sale
Regarding the article “Board to hear report on hospital sale” (Aug. 8):
The Board of Supervisors should not only review the single financial impact of the sale of Greenwood Leflore Hospital, but also the tax revenues associated with the sale if the buyer is a for-profit system.
If they sell to a non-profit such as Baptist, there will be no future revenues from property taxes, income taxes, etc.
Selling to a non-profit would be a big mistake as local government will spend the initial proceeds faster than you can believe!

Regarding the editorial “Self’s response gives a headache” (Aug. 8):
If Leflore County were to self-insure, at least partially, using their OWN hospital, they would have a huge incentive to get emergency room visits and other preventable costs down. Like educating the workers that the walk-in clinics are there, maybe. Or automatically scheduling every worker for a primary care visit every year. This is a tremendous opportunity to do it right.
Instead, Board of Supervisors is considering selling the hospital. Well, maybe if this is a demonstration of their administrative skills, they have a point.

Greenwood police
Female Senior Citizen, I agree, agree, agree.
A female friend was pulled over the other day for “running a stop sign.” The male police officer was rude and arrogant, yelling at her, while the female officer was polite and hesitant to write the ticket, admitting no one ever stops at that sign when the light is green. (It’s a three-way stop immediately in front of a red light.)
She got a $180 ticket! She has NEVER had a ticket in her many years of driving. Greenwood needs to do something about the hostile attitudes that govern our city.
