Editor, Commonwealth:
The world is on the verge of destruction, and what is leading the news? Some Indians are appalled by the name of Redskins being used for an NFL team.
The name has been in use for two centuries, and now they are worried about its use.
I love some Indians, such as Tommy Lee, whom I knew as a young man in East Greenwood. This was a tough individual. He will always be dear to me.
I am 66 years young, but there are a lot more important things in the world besides the name of an NFL team.
I guess the Oakland Raiders are all crooks and thieves. The Forty-Niners are an unlucky number. The New Orleans Saints are certainly not saints. The New York Giants are certainly not all tall athletes. The Cincinnati Bengals are not tigers. The New York Jets are not airplanes, nor can they fly. The Cleveland Browns are not all brown. The Arizona Cardinals are not birds or priests. So why all this uproar about the name of the Washington Redskins?
Get over it. It is not a big deal. We are all part-Indian, since our ancestors intermingled with Indian women when they traveled out west in the 1800s.
Let’s get over this name game.
