Editor, Commonwealth:
At 69 years old, I felt so good, so young, not my age. Yet old diabetes got ahold of me. Stage 2. A little sugar in the blood.
It’s not the end of the world, but it’s a life-changing event. Lose weight. Change diet. Exercise (a lot of walking). Thank God it was caught early.
I read that there are 12 million people with diabetes, and many don’t even know they have it because they haven’t been tested.
Why do so many people have diabetes? It’s the American diet. Fast food galore. Sugar on this, sugar on that. Soda pop. Pizza. Donuts. I’ve got a sweet tooth that won’t go away.
One thing for certain, it doesn’t discriminate. This diabetes epidemic is spreading like wildfire.
