Editor, Commonwealth:
Time flies like a whisper. Mother recently turned 90 and myself the big 70. Sweet 16 is so long gone.
I can’t seem to find the Fountain of Youth. Where, oh where, can it be? We all wish we could be young forever. Pictures remind us of how old we are, and mirrors don’t lie.
Dolly Parton and Cher look like they’re spring chickens of 22. How they sparkle in the spotlight on stage, their voices stronger than ever.
I don’t yet need a cane or a wheelchair, although I walk a bit slow nowadays. Hearing loss, back pain and diabetes have come my way, but the Lord has blessed me in many ways. I wake up to the morning sun and songbirds singing melodies. I can play my guitar and sing beautiful songs to pass the time of day: “One Day at a Time,” “Peace in the Valley,” “How Great Thou Art.” A wonderful feeling comes over my heart and soul.
I remember Forrest Gump. He said, “Life is like a box of chocolates.” How true that is. We don’t know what’s going to happen down this road of life.
We are all going to be touched by Father Time. I’m just hanging on for the ride.
