Editor, Commonwealth:
I read the article on Larry Johnson and the alleged incident with the student at the middle school in Quitman County (“Judge OKs prosecution of ex-supervisor,” June 16). I also read the two prior articles, which stated that a teacher witnessed the alleged incident. Now you are saying that an inmate supposedly witnessed it.
Please make me understand this. Where did the inmate all of a sudden come from? You mentioned nothing about the teacher. Something smells fishy to me.
If the inmates were on the campus in a trailer, why were they left unsupervised? They are not supposed to be left unsupervised at any time, or does that matter? If Mr. Johnson allegedly beat the student so badly, why didn’t the inmate say or do something? Why would Mr. Johnson do this in front of someone?
Something really smells fishy, and I just can’t wait until this whole thing is finished. I feel Nannette Reed, the school’s principal, is making Mr. Johnson the fall guy. She recruited him to help run her school, and when someone cried foul, she threw him under the bus.
I do not feel that you have done a full investigation into this situation. It is so strange that you are not curious as to why all of a sudden the key witness is an inmate, and not a teacher as was previously stated.
