Editor, Commonwealth:
The need for and potential benefits of the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance coverage expansion are particlarly notable in rural areas where the population is disproportionately older, lower income, chronically ill and uninsured. The more highly rural and isolate a person is, the less likely he or she is to be insured.
The Affordable Care Act makes massive strides toward providing families with greater control over their health care coverage. The law expands access, lowers costs and protects consumers so that families have peace of mind knowing that the health of their loved ones is not subject to the desire of insurance companies.
The time has come for citizens of the United States to make a difference. Public officials should believe in improving people’s lives. Millions of Americans cannot afford to pay for treatment. Some citizens are going broke or are already broke because of denial of health insurance. Major illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer are affecting our society today and thousands of people die every year.
I am encouraging every citizen who has not signed up to sign up for the Affordable Care Act because there are millions of American adults and children with pre-existing conditions who will be able to get insurance without the high costs. People will be secured in their health insurance coverage and will not be dropped due to mistakes on their application, children will be covered on their parents’ plan until age 26 and low-income individuals and seniors on Medicaid and Medicare will not have to worry about the cost of their medicines.
This law will provide better health care for all Americans and reduce health care costs for this great nation. Citizens, don’t continue to suffer for not having health care coverage. We all will have a better chance of survival if we get covered.
