Editor, Commonwealth:
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the great coverage The Greenwood Commonwealth recently gave my grandson, Lucas Lormand, and the lemonade stand he had during spring break to raise money for Camp Jigsaw. We also conducted a raffle, giving away a prize package valued at more than $2,300 in items donated by area businesses, individuals and even some out-of-state individuals. We drew the winning ticket Friday, March 16, at the conclusion of the second day of the lemonade stand. Vicky Clark of Greenwood was the lucky winner. Congratulations to Vicky!
I can’t say enough good things about the businesses and the citizens of Greenwood and surrounding areas who participated in putting together this prize package. We had donations from businesses in Greenwood, Itta Bena and Indianola as well as donations from individuals in Texas and Alabama. As a result of the lemonade stand and the raffle, to date we have raised $4,081 for Camp Jigsaw.
Thank you so much to everyone who bought tickets and came by the lemonade stand to donate.
As was stated in the article you published recently, Camp Jigsaw is a camp for adolescent boys and young men who are on the autism spectrum. Camp Jigsaw is completely free for the boys who attend and runs solely on donations. Lucas has attended the last two years and absolutely loves it. He can’t wait to go back this summer.
Dr. Sandy Devlin does a wonderful job putting on Camp Jigsaw, and she is so good with the boys who attend. She has lots of help from graduate students at Mississippi State University, where Camp Jigsaw is held. Camp Jigsaw is such a blessing to these young men and their families.
For more information on Camp Jigsaw call 662-341-3322. Donations can be sent to Dr. Sandy Devlin, 577 South Lake Road, Starkville, MS 39759. Checks can be made payable to Camp Jigsaw. Donations may also be sent to my attention at 401 W. Barton, Greenwood, MS 38930. I will make sure Dr. Devlin receives all donations sent to me.
