Editor, Commonwealth:
I have just about read all I care to read from Clarence and Just Sayin in “My Two Cents.” I feel that I must come to the defense of a top-notch journalist like Tim Kalich.
We are so lucky to have such a fine investigative journalist as an editor in such a small town like Greenwood. When he smells corruption, he goes for the jugular. He has called out the politicians who take our public contributions for their political campaigns and use them for personal use. He has given us an in-depth look at the prospects of consolidating the Greenwood and Leflore County school districts. He also has given us a good insight into the pluses and minuses of the current legislation, HB 1523.
Think about the countries that do not allow any criticism of their government’s goings- on. The journalists there are simply put in prison or killed. We need those people willing to voice their criticism of government misdeeds. God bless the United States of America and our Constitution for allowing freedom of speech!
I always read Mr. Kalich’s editorials because I know he has actually researched what he is talking about and always reports in an intelligent and informative way. I really admire our country’s forefathers when they came up with separation of church and state.
Oh yeah, I didn’t like the idea of placing a pistol on the Good Lord’s book either. And what’s with Just Sayin’s remark about old ladies packing pistols in addition to having alms in their pocketbooks (“My Two Cents,” April 20). Makes me think of the phrase “trick or treat.” Ha, ha.
Oh well, my point is, leave Mr. Kalich alone. He is a voice of reason crying in the wilderness.
