Editor, Commonwealth:
As a native of Washington County and an activist on human issues, I must share my personal opinions relating to the choice we will make in selecting a circuit judge in a runoff on Nov. 25.
It is of extreme importance that we choose carefully and wisely.
Our circuit court spans three counties, Washington, Sunflower and Leflore. The voting process, though, is limited to the district where you live. Therefore, you may be unable to vote for your desired candidate. It is up to us, as individuals of these counties, to share our opinions with others who do not live in the voting area. Make no mistake, for we will all share in the interest of this choice for the next few years.
I encourage my fellow citizens to put this initiative above all else, above reproach and to the highest regard. Choose experience, compassion, fairness and justice for the people first. Make your decision between these two candidates knowing that it is a fact that Mississippi has the second highest rate in the nation of incarcerating its citizens.
So, please, choose experience to ensure fair and just due process of law for each and every human being.
This runoff election is so close to our Thanksgiving holiday, but it is a day for you to make an important decision as to who our new circuit judge will be.
