Editor, Commonwealth:
Plans for our project, After School Tutorial and Health Education Programs, got a boost forward recently with Entergy awarding the Onnie M. Elliott Community Service Center a $300 grant.
Entergy has partnered with organizations such as ours for a number of years and has given thousands of dollars in grant funds to help make community projects a reality. We are glad to have been chosen to receive the award and look forward to taking part in our own effort to better our community.
This project will provide tutoring in math, English, reading and other subject areas for students in grades 2 through 6. Additionally, the program is designed to provide health awareness, health screening care and nutrition education.
The Board of Directors of the Onnie M. Elliott Community Service Center is delighted that it was chosen as a recipient for this grant. The center is a nonprofit organization with a 501c(3) status. Its mission is to serve the community in the areas of education, after-school tutoring and preventive health education programs that will enable individuals to take care of themselves; to prepare children for school success; and to prepare children for the world of higher education. In order to meet our mission and provide services to our community, we rely on grants and the generosity of individuals and businesses for support. Without the assistance of grants, community-minded individuals, businesses and volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to serve those in our community who are in need of these services.
