Editor, Commonwealth:
The Chakchiuma Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution wishes to thank all the people who made our flag project possible.
We were so pleased to have 50 large flags placed on Highways 82 and 7 and to have received expressions of appreciation from those who saw them.
The Daughters of the American Revolution is a patriotic organization whose motto is “God, Family, and Country.” Our chapter plans for this to be an ongoing patriotic project and to increase the number of flags each year.
We wish to thank Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams for her involvement and support of this project and Susan Bailey, director of public works, and her workers for placing the flags and taking them down.
We also thank Derrick Hinckley, recycling coordinator, for providing a place for staging and storing of the flags. We thank Robert Beasley, American Legion Post 200, and Gary McDonald and Richard Avant, American Legion Post 29, for their work in securing the flags to the poles, Patrick Parham for preparing the poles, and Jones Sign Co. for donating the heavy-duty zip ties.
We especially want to thank the merchants who created patriotic displays in honor of their loved ones who served in the military. And we certainly appreciate the Commonwealth’s coverage of this project.
