Editor, Commonwealth:
I have no problems with the employees of the Greenwood Sanitation Department. They have a thankless job that no one wants. My gripes are with the administration!
Greenwood is becoming a trashier city because of policy. I own a business. I have homeowner neighbors on the east side with a common alley. They have their new trash cans out packed full and sometimes have extra bags of trash that will not fit in the can.
In years past, all the trash was picked up. Now, if it is not in the can, it sits there until it rots. Even though the city is collecting a fee to pick up trash, it is not picking up the trash.
On Wednesday morning, the city employees moved the extra bags out of the way to get the can with the new fancy truck, busted part of the extra bags and kicked them into the ditch. This has been going on for months. It smells like there is something dead in the ditch, and I have to pay someone to pick up the trash blowing over the alley onto my property.
Why have garbage service if you are not going to pick up the garbage? The city is getting paid to pick up the trash whether it is in a can or not. Pick up the damn trash!
Maybe we need the old trucks back with the men on the back. Things were cleaner.
