Editor, Commonwealth:
In response to the letter to the editor dated Oct. 21, “Why is someone living in Clerico Park?”
Although a person may not live in a Greenwood city park, anyone may use the park and its facilities between the hours of 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., in accordance with Section 14-3 of the city’s Code of Ordinances.
The Greenwood Police Department is aware of the issue at Clerico Park and has been monitoring the situation daily, ensuring that the park is vacated by 11 p.m.
As it relates to mental problems, the City of Greenwood has no jurisdiction over a person’s mental health unless the person poses a direct threat to himself or herself or another person. That responsibility resides with the individual, his or her family and the Mississippi Department of Mental Health.
I appreciate your concern for the safety and well-being of the community. Please know that the situation is being monitored.
Carolyn McAdams
Mayor
