Editor, Commonwealth:
A group of local ministers recently spearheaded a back-to-school celebration (Aug. 6) in the Greenwood High School auditorium that drew parents, students and Greenwood Public School District supporters.
On behalf of the ministers, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for coming out and supporting the district’s administration, including Superintendent Montrell Greene, school board, principals and other administrators; the staff, including teachers, custodians, maintenance staff, cafeteria workers and others; and students and parents of the Greenwood Public School District as well as parents in all of the surrounding areas.
With more than 300 people in attendance at a program that was planned only 2½ weeks prior to the actual event, we are highly elated by the turnout and support. Special thanks to the approximately 70-member student mass choir under the direction of Keyona Miller; the individuals who comprised the giveaway committee; clergy who came out to support the event; and all those involved in making the back-to-school celebration a success.
We appreciate the superintendent’s willingness to partner with us and allow the use of the facility for this community cause.
Our continued prayers will be for the Greenwood Public School District toward success this year and years to come as it seeks to maximize student potential.
