Giving students a chance to voice their questions and concerns about the upcoming consolidation of the Greenwood and Leflore County schools was a reasonable exercise.
The modest turnout, however, by the students at Saturday’s forum would indicate that they either didn’t have a way to get to the Leflore County Civic Center, had other priorities for spending the day or are simply trusting the adults in the process to make the right decisions.
We suspect it’s mostly the latter.
Running schools is the obligation of adults. They decide what students need to study. They establish whatever extracurriculars they believe will enhance the learning process. They decide who will teach and who will coach.
When these decisions are made well, the students are the beneficiaries, whether they think much about it or not.
