A one-car accident on Leflore County Road 518 Monday afternoon claimed the life of a 58-year-old Greenwood woman.
Juanita Hill of 1912 Grenada Blvd. lost control of her vehicle shortly after 4:30 p.m. while traveling toward Greenwood. The Ford Escort left the road, entered a ditch and came to rest after striking a tree. Hill, who was not wearing her seatbelt, died on impact, according to Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders.
“She suffered extensive facial trauma and internal injuries,” Sanders said this morning.
There were no other occupants in the car. It was not raining at the time of the accident, which occurred between Money and Greenwood.
According to a Leflore County Sheriff’s Department incident report, Hill lost control of the vehicle, sliding off of the right side of the road. She managed back onto the road, but a blowout to the car’s right rear tire sent Hill into a spin and back off of the road.
The incident report described the car as being “wrapped around a tree.”
Leflore County Road 518, known locally as Money Road, is a two-lane road.
No autopsy will be performed, according to Sanders.
Sanders and Sanders Funeral Home of Greenwood is handling funeral arrangements.
