Mississippians who completed some college work but did not obtain a degree can now complete degree requirements with the help of a state-sponsored website.
Individuals can submit information through the Complete to Compete website (www.msc2c.org) to find out how close they are to completing degree requirements. Depending on what programs are needed to complete a degree, the website can then match them to a list of schools that offer required classes.
There is no cost to use the website.
Once a searcher knows what he or she must do to complete a degree program, tuition and fees for enrollment can be assessed. The website can also help guide participants to information on academic forgiveness, virtual tutoring, adult learner scholarships and tuition assistance, prior learning assessment and repayment plan options.
According to a Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning release, more than 2,400 former students over age 21 in Mississippi have enough credits to earn a bachelor’s degree without additional course work.
An additional 28,000 students have enough credits to earn an associate’s degree with no additional course work, and more than 100,000 former students can earn either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree with some additional course work.
The Complete 2 Compete program is a statewide initiative sponsored by the state’s two- and four-year public colleges.
Dr. Glenn Boyce, commissioner of higher education, said the C2C website provides information that can have “life-changing results for many Mississippians.
“Workforce studies have shown that the vast majority of future jobs will go to those with a postsecondary degree or credential of value beyond high school,” Boyce said.
“I would encourage individuals to access this website as it could be an important first step in helping them achieve a goal that will ultimately lead to a better, higher-paying job and greater job and financial security.”
