Flooding in Ward 3 is a problem, and the elected officials responsible for the area are looking to fix it.
District 3 Leflore County Supervisor Anjuan Brown and Ward 3 City Councilman Ronnie Stevenson will hold a public meeting today to discuss the flooding. County Engineer Robert Willis will address the issue and explain problems and potential solutions for residents of the area to consider.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and will be held at the Youth Center.
“We’re going to be focusing on Commerce Street and the houses on the end of Commerce Street, near Willow, Pine and Mimosa,” said Brown, who added that the area sees a lot of flooding each time it rains, getting into houses and threatening properties.
The flooding was one of the primary platforms of Margaret Clark, unsuccessfully tried to unseat Stevenson in May’s Democratic City Council primary. Clark had promised to bring in an engineer to figure out the Ward 3 flooding.
Brown said residents and other interested parties will be able to voice their concerns about the flooding and get answers on how to deal with it.
“The main thing is to inform the community on what exactly is going on with the flooding,” he said. “We want to sit down and give an explanation to residents and inform them of the options they have and what we’re trying to do about it.”
