Calling all ladies: The Viking Classic golf tournament will have its Ladies’ Day, sponsored by the Ridgeland Tourism Commission starting at 9 a.m. Thursday.
The tournament is held at Annandale Golf Club in Madison. Participants in Ladies’ Day may leave their clubs at home because this is not a typical day on the links.
The event will include activities tailored to the interests of both female golf enthusiasts and those with other interests.
“We have so much going on with cooking shows and a breakfast hosted by two of the golf players’ wives,” said Randy Watkins, tournament director. “On top of that, we have shopping and golf instruction from some of our pros.”
Throughout the day, there will be cooking demonstrations including the special class “Inspired by the hit movie ‘Julie and Julia’ - Mastering French Cuisine,” presented by the Viking Cooking School at 11 a.m.
For those looking for some heat in the kitchen, there will be a culinary pro-am competition between Chris Wilson, chef at Emeril’s of New Orleans, and Lee Richardson, chef at Capital Hotel in Little Rock, Ark., at 1 p.m.
Ruth’s Chris Steak House will also be on hand for a wine and cheese tasting at 3 p.m.
“The cooking shows are amazing and very entertaining,” Watkins said.
All cooking demonstrations will take place under the Viking Culinary Tent.
But the day isn’t just about keeping women in the kitchen.
For the ladies looking to test their golf skills, free lessons from PGA professionals will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the driving range.
During the day, there will also be shopping and ladies’ demonstrations at the Ridgeland Tourism Pavilion on the 18th fairway.
“It is a great sporting event, and there is something for everyone,” Watkins said.
Women of all ages attending the tournament will enjoy free admission for Ladies’ Day.
