United Way of Leflore County has accepted a new agency beginning on Jan. 1.
Delta Grace Inc., located at 510 Sunflower Ave., in Sunflower, is a multi-denominational faith-based 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization created to assist those needing home repair in the Mississippi Delta.
“The United Way is excited about partnering with Delta Grace as a new agency,” said Courtney Kimmel, executive director of United Way of Leflore County. “Their work, mission and goals mirror what United Way stands for, and we look forward to helping them in funding and hands-on work.”
Kimmel said Delta Grace is in the district’s service area.
“Delta Grace is looking forward to working with the United Way of Leflore County to help strengthen the mission of improving lives by enabling others to serve one another with whatever gift each has received,” the Rev. Veronica Pritchard, executive director of Delta Grace, said in a statement.
Delta Grace is a year-round mission that provides housing, projects, materials, supervision and worship for teams wanting to help improve the lives of others.
Teams work on homes to provide safe, sanitary and secure housing for the elderly, the disabled and others who do not have the means to provide for adequate living conditions.
Pritchard said the purpose of Delta Grace “is to match the skills of missioners with the needs of homeowners to ensure a positive and productive experience.”
The organization works with local agencies to identify mission opportunities and assess the needs via applications and personal interviews.
“Most of the work we do consists of repairs to sheetrock, flooring, ceilings, cabinets, plumbing, fascia, soffits and roofs,” Pritchard said. “Team members do not have to have carpentry skills, but it is beneficial if they do.”
The agency has four main goals: repair homes, bring wholeness to a divided community, bring awareness of the needs with the Mississippi Delta and serve as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, she said.
Kimmel said Delta Grace has already worked on some homes in Morgan City, adding, “We encourage them to do additional homes in Leflore County next year.”
Cyndi Long, chair of the United Way’s admissions and allocations committee, said, “We are continuously looking for agencies in our area that qualify for United Way funds and serve the people in and around Leflore County, and we are pleased to welcome Delta Grace on board.”
