Greenwood Little Theatre's second production of the 2007-08 season will be “A Tuna Christmas,” a holiday-themed comedy that will open Thursday night.
“A Tuna Christmas” promises to put the “fun” in dysfunction by providing an evening of good-old redneck laughs for the whole family.
The show is part of the “Tuna Trilogy,” written by Ed Howard, Joe Sears and Jason Williams, which includes “Greater Tuna” and “Red, White and Tuna.”
The “Tuna” plays are unique in that they feature two men playing the entire cast of more than 20 characters of various genders and ages.
In this case, the characters will be played by brothers Cham and Ike Trotter, who performed the show last year in Indianola. The production is being directed by Anita Batman.
“A Tuna Christmas” finds the eccentric citizens of Tuna, the third smallest town in Texas, getting ready for the holiday season. The plot includes everything from a Christmas yard-decorating contest being sabotaged by a mysterious phantom to a “Peace on Earth” used weapons sale.
Some of the characters include aspiring taxidermist Stanley Bumiller, town snob Vera Carp, UFOlogist R.R. Snavely and Sheriff “Rubber Sheets” Givens, a bed-wetter.
“It's a comedy. It's really funny and it's pretty neat that two brothers are doing it,” said Don Hummel, Greenwood Little Theatre president.
The performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Saturday night, and 2 p.m. Dec. 2. There will be no performance Friday.
Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the door.
