Saturday’s temperatures are expected to be near 78 degrees in the daytime but then fall to near freezing in less than 12 hours.
There is a 40 percent chance of showers tonight, with temperatures expected in the low 50s, said Joanne Culin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson.
Saturday’s highs will drop as a cold front passes through, bringing with it the possibility of thunderstorms and showers.
There is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms and showers Saturday afternoon and an 80 to 90 percent chance that night.
Sunday’s high is expected to be around 35 degrees, followed by lows around 18. Culin said a gusty north wind will make the temperature feel like the lower 20s for most of the day.
She advised that residents take precautions regarding pets and sensitive plants.
Culin said road conditions should be clear by Sunday evening as the storm system moves through.
Monday’s daytime high is expected to be around 37 degrees with lows near 23.
By Tuesday, daytime highs should be in the mid-40s.
Nighttime temperatures will be near freezing, Culin said.
Leflore County Road Manager Jerry Smith said his department is prepared should localized flooding occur over the weekend.
“We’ve got three or four tractor pumps ready,” he said.
The pumps can be deployed to areas that have experienced flooding in the past, such as the Glendale Subdivision, if needed.
Greenwood Public Works Director Susan Bailey said that her department will be monitoring the situation and will be paying particular attention to ditches and storm drains.
