Kirk Brothers Ford Lincoln is backing a test drive fundraising event Wednesday to benefit the Greenwood Interfaith Ministries’ Community Kitchen.
The fundraiser, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Highland Park Shopping Center, is part of Ford’s “Drive 4UR Community” outreach campaign.
For each test drive, Ford will donate $20 to the Community Kitchen, up to a total of $6,000.
Drivers must be 18 or older with valid licenses. There is a limit of one test drive per household.
Barbara Biggers, board member and treasurer of the Community Kitchen, said Kevin Evans, general manager of Kirk Brothers Ford Lincoln, called her and told her about the program.
Evans said some 12 new vehicles will be available for test drives.
A similar program sponsored by Ford, “Drive One for Your School,” has been popular at Pillow Academy. Five of those events over a four-year period raised some $30,000 for the school, he said.
Evans said he was optimistic about Wednesday’s event.
“We’ve always hit the $6,000 mark. All we need is 300 test drives,” he said.
Evans also is asking the public to bring canned goods, which will be donated to the Community Kitchen. Biggers said two pickup trucks will be at the event to handle food donations.
For Biggers, the effort is a godsend.
“It’s a wonderful thing for the Community Kitchen. We’re thrilled,” she said.
