Your rescue pet could have its debut in modeling.
The Leflore County Humane Society is asking pet owners to submit photos of their rescue cats or dogs for consideration for the Humane Society’s 2021 calendar.
Shawn Hodges, a member of the Humane Society’s board, said the idea of a calendar was suggested as a way to showcase local rescue animals and raise money for the shelter.
“We thought it would be a fun way to just get the public involved,” Hodges said. “I feel like a lot of the Humane Shelter is constantly asking for donations and money. We thought this would be a way for the public to really interact and give them something in return.”
The rescue animal must be a cat or dog but need not have been adopted from the Leflore County shelter, Hodges said.
An animal will be featured for each of the calendar’s 12 months. There will also be an animal featured for the cover and treated to a professional photo shoot.
A $10 registration fee is required to enter a rescue animal. Pet owners also will be asked to describe how they came to adopt their pets.
Submissions for the calendar will be open until October, Hodges said. The board will narrow the number of submissions to 24. The public will then get to vote for an animal for each month at a cost of $1 per vote.
All of the proceeds from the registration and voting fees will go towards the Humane Society as donations, which will also be a way for the animal shelter to generate income until the holidays, Hodges said.
In November, the winning entrants will be selected and notified.
Should the calendar become popular, Hodges said the board will consider making it an annual event. “If there’s any sort of success in it, we’ll do it again,” she said.
