A fundraising event for Relay for Life of Leflore County will be held Saturday at the Elks Lodge, located at 1010 Sgt. John Pittman Drive.
The event will be held from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature a grilling contest, an arts and crafts booth, food vendors and live entertainment.
“Come on out to have some good food and fellowship for a good cause,” said Stacie Clardy, team captain of sponsoring local Relay for Life team Happy Feet Divas.
The grilling contest will have two categories — chicken and pork. There is a $10 fee to enter the competition. Grillers will cook on site, and event organizers and some of those attending will be chosen to judge.
Some of the variety of items vendors will be selling include pottery, wooden benches and chairs and hamburgers and hot dogs. A booth is free. However, Clardy said the team will ask for a portion of each vendor’s profits to be donated to Relay.
The event will also include live entertainment such as The Pounders Family, Two for God and others.
“The fundraiser is going to go on rain or shine,” said Clardy. “There is plenty of room on the inside if we need to move the event from outside.”
Happy Feet Divas Relay team consists of Greenwood-area residents Clardy, Dedia Hood, Dusty Hood, Rhonda Mitchell, Elizabeth Bailey, Linda Weeks, Dollinda Malone, Elaine Lemley, Gail Hook and Kelly Smith. This is the team’s largest fundraiser before the annual Relay for Life, which will be held April 8 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Leflore County Agri-Center.
Another upcoming Relay for Life of Leflore County fundraiser will be held March 24 at The Winery at Williams Landing. The event will be a wine tasting and seminar held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
