Citizen input at a public hearing Thursday will help Greenwood and Leflore County leaders decide what should be contained in a proposal for the possible sale of Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center. The public is invited to speak, with a limit of five minutes per speaker.
“I wish I could say I knew what was coming. A lot of doctors will be there,” said Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams.
The meeting, which will be attended by members of the Greenwood City Council, the Leflore County Board of Supervisors and the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board, will be presided over by Margaret Williams, a hospital attorney, McAdams said.
Leflore County Chancery Clerk Sam Abraham said there’s interest in drawing up a request for a proposal (RFP) regarding the possible sale of the hospital, which is jointly owned by the city and the county. “I think the county and the city are interested. Hopefully, some suggestions will come out of there for that RFP,” Abraham said.
McAdams said the consulting firm, the Horne Group, will “give the public the pros and cons” of selling the hospital.
The mayor encouraged citizens to attend and voice their views. “It’s their opportunity. Don’t leave anything held back. Just say it all,” McAdams said.
The mayor said this morning that a physician and three citizens had already asked to speak.
Abraham said the hearing should address some of the concerns regarding retirement plans for present and former hospital employees. He said citizen input at the public hearing is important.
“They need to voice their view on what should be in the RFP to make it a win-win, not only for the hospital and its staff but the community,” Abraham said.
