It has arrived: The 27th edition of Profile comes along with your afternoon paper today.
All the good news of Greenwood area that’s fit to print is also available at newsstands for 75 cents.
While everyone involved in the arduous process of turning out a 128-page book is excited to see the finished product, Commonwealth Editor Tim Kalich is especially proud of this year’s issue.
“The Profile edition is dedicated to telling the story of so many great people, companies and things going on in this community,” he said. “Reading the new edition each year from cover to cover gives my spirits a huge lift. I hope it has the same reaction with our readers. There’s really a lot to be proud of and amazed by in Greenwood and the surrounding area.”
The issue also reveals the winner of the annual Community Service Award: Bill Crump, director of corporate and governmental affairs at Viking Range Corp.
“Bill is truly a model citizen,” Kalich said. “From the time he was a teenager, he has dedicated himself to trying to improve and serve his community. He knows how to get things done and whom to call on to make them happen. He’s a person of great smarts and great character. That’s a combination that has earned him much respect and admiration. It’s our pleasure just to recognize that with this award.”
The cover of the 2013 edition, exquisitely put together by graphic designer Joseph Cotton, focuses on the most “Delta” parts of Greenwood — things that cannot be explained but help to create an essence to the town that others like it lack. That sentiment is best summarized by Greenwood’s new branding campaign, “That’s So Delta,” whose logo is also featured on the front of the magazine.
The issue, which features 33 articles and almost 200 ads, contains full-color portraits of well-known community members and obscure ones alike. The widely varied subjects are sure to inspire equally enthusiastic pleasant sighs and congratulations. The issue will also inspire measured reflections on how far Greenwood has come in the past year and the bright road ahead.
There are a million ways to read it — in one sitting or a few. Either way it’s worth a good read. It is after all, a collection of everything that makes the community an inspiring place to live.
