The wait is over: The 25th edition of Profile is here.
The annual compilation of Greenwood’s good news is included in today’s newspaper. Home-delivery subscribers will get it with their papers, and it’s also available at newsstands for $1.25.
Commonwealth Editor and Publisher Tim Kalich hailed the release.
“It’s been several months of hard, but especially gratifying work,” he said. “Every year we put out the Profile edition, it reinforces in my mind just how lucky I am to be a part of a community that is so interesting, so vibrant and so welcoming.”
The annual Community Service Award, which is presented in conjunction with the Profile edition, goes to Belva Pleasants, a Greenwood Realtor who is an active volunteer with a host of organizations.
“Belva is amazing. At 81, she is still doing more volunteer work than a lot of folks half her age. She is truly an inspiration,” Kalich said. “She takes seriously the call that all of us should hear to apply ourselves to making our community better.”
The cover features some of the people with connections to Leflore and Carroll counties selected as the Top 25 Influential Citizens and Top 25 Sports Figures of all time. The lists should generate watercooler discussion about who should have been included — or left off.
This Profile is the largest ever at 128 pages and highlights a cross-section of the people and institutions that give Greenwood and the surrounding area their identity.
It includes 33 articles, 132 news photos and 155 advertisements.
The issue should be savored — like a fine meal.
