The Greenwood Mentoring Group will hold its ninth annual prayer breakfast Saturday.
The breakfast will be at 8 a.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center.
Tickets are $20 each.
They may be purchased in advance at the group’s Learning Center, 200 Ave. G, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday; from center volunteer Connie Johnson at the James Quinn Agency at 513 W. Park Ave.; or from Bill Clay, the founder and chairman of the board of the after-school group.
Tickets may also be purchased at the door Saturday.
“Our supporters are our lifeblood. Without them, we couldn’t be where we are,” Clay said.
The program will include Dr. Rusty Douglas, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, and Robert Fitzpatrick, director of the Leflore County Juvenile Detention Center. Harry Sherrod will prepare the food.
Clay said the mentoring group has done a great job of “connecting the children, the kids in South Greenwood, with residents from North Greenwood.”
That support — both volunteerwise and financially — has enabled the group to grow from the Learning Center to an adjoining property at 124 Ave. G.
A third property, located at 700 Ave. L, is due to come online later this year or early next year. That location will provide pre-k classes, Clay said.
He said that commitments secured at the prayer breakfast might be able to push that long- awaited project over the top.
