After 12 weeks, police are still awaiting the analysis of forensic evidence in the death of a woman who was found in her home after being stabbed.
Lakeyla Foreman Broom, 29, a nurse at Mid-Delta Home Health & Hospice and a mother of three, was found in her home Sept. 21 at 710 W. President Ave. by police after they received a call from her husband, 32-year-old Edward Broom.
No arrests have been made.
“‘Frustrating’ isn’t the word for it,” said Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore this morning.
The forensic evidence is still being processed by the state Crime Lab in Jackson, the chief said. He said a detective assigned to the Broom case has been in contact with the Crime Lab on a regular basis in the hopes of getting the case moving.
“We’re kind of hamstrung,” the chief said.
Officers found Edward Broom tied up on a bed in the house. Not far away, officers found the body of Lakeyla Broom, the victim of multiple stab wounds.
Edward Broom, who was also stabbed, was taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital, where he was treated and released. No one else was in the home when police arrived.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll Crime Stoppers Inc., at 1-888-222-TIPS (8477) or the Greenwood Police Department at 453-3311.
