Carroll and Montgomery County citizens are invited to attend an informational meeting about a new ministry center at 7 p.m. Monday at Carrollton Baptist Church.
The ministry center is sponsored by the Carroll Montgomery Baptist Association, but all Christians in the area are invited to participate in the ministry opportunities, said Fletcher Moorman, chairman of the funding committee for the ministry center.
“The ministry center will help area citizens in need, by way of Mission Hope, as well as be a staging area for disaster relief, not only in our area, but in other places where natural disasters hit,” Moorman said. “The committee is looking at purchasing the old Corrulite building, an industrial building no longer in use.”
The building is owned by the Tom Dulin Foundation, which was formed to help children who attend the Winona Public Schools. Receipts from the purchase of the building will be used in that mission, Moorman said.
Mission Hope gives food, clothing and furniture to needy families in the area and holds Vacation Bible School for area children, as well as computer classes and holiday celebrations.
“It is now in a building that leaks badly and can’t be heated, so its ministry is hindered,” he said.
Other uses for the building will include a place for Operation Christmas Child, which sends gifts to needy children around the world, and Christian Women’s Job Corps, which will assist women who need job training, Moorman said.
“There will be room for multiple ministry opportunities,” he said.
Jim Pender, who is Carroll Montgomery Baptist Associational Missionary, said he envisions the building “becoming a major hub of ministry activity to further the cause of Christ, strengthen His Church, and help meet a variety of needs in Carroll and Montgomery counties and surrounding area.”
Moorman said the fundraising committee hopes the large building will be used for many more ministries, not just those going on now.
