A Pillow Academy eighth grader was killed Wednesday in a four-wheeler accident while riding with friends.
Pullen Avant, 15, was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m. at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Emergency Room, where he was taken following the accident, according to Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders.
Also injured in the accident were two other eighth graders, Michael Badome and Collin Moore, according to Rodney Brown, the school’s former headmaster and now principal. They were being treated Wednesday night at the hospital, but Brown, who was at the hospital, said that “by all accounts, they are going to be OK physically.”
Brown said he didn’t know any particulars of what caused the accident. He first learned of it around 6:30 p.m. He said he understood that the three boys were riding together on the same four-wheeler, and that there were other children riding on other four-wheelers in a small group.
Pullen’s parents are Matt and Stephanie Avant. His family attends North Greenwood Baptist Church.
“He was just an all-around good kid,” Brown said. “A good student, a good athlete, a leader in his class.
“It’s just a terrible loss for Pillow Academy.”
