The eighth annual ’Que on the Yazoo, which starts Friday, has all the ingredients for success.
“If the weather looks good, everything else looks good,” said Brantley Snipes, executive director of Main Street Greenwood, which sponsors the two-day event.
The daytime temperatures are expected to reach 75 Friday and 83 Saturday.
This is the fourth year that ’Que has been a stand-alone event. Previously it was paired with the River to the Rails party.
Snipes said 30 teams — 18 in the patio division and 12 in the pro division — have signed up. Judging will take place Friday night, with 30 judges participating.
For the steak cook-off, 24 entries have been received, which is double that of 2015, she said. That event is sanctioned by the Steak Cookoff Association.
There also will be a wild game competition and a kids’ burger competition.
For those not competing, music will be a big draw on Friday night beginning at 6 p.m. Bands scheduled to perform that night include Mississippi Marshall, Reunion the Band and Acoustic Crossroads. The music will last until 11:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the Memphis Barbecue Network-sanctioned contest will be held.
Those desiring a sampling of barbecue can purchase a wristband for $5. That also allows them to vote in the People’s Choice Awards, which will be presented from noon until 2 p.m.
Awards for the MBN competition will be presented around 4:30 p.m.
Other activities on Saturday include a magician for the kids as well as bounce houses. ArtPlace Mississippi will also have an event for children.
