Private schools in Leflore and Carroll counties continue to engage in distance learning while their school campuses are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
North New Summit and Carroll Academy have closed their campuses for the remainder of the school year, Keith Davis, headmaster and principal of North New Summit, and Penny Mitchell, headmaster of Carroll, said Friday.
New Summit’s last day of class is May 21, Davis said. Carroll Academy’s last day is April 30 for seniors and May 12 for the rest of the students, Mitchell said.
Delta Streets Academy and Pillow Academy, which also both closed their campuses to engage in distance learning, are still determining on a week-to-week basis if campus closures will continue. Both remain closed at least through May 1.
Delta Streets’ last day of class is May 21, said T. Mac Howard, the head of the school and executive director.
Rodney Brown, headmaster of Pillow, said the school’s last day of classes is May 20, though it could change if there are new developments related to the pandemic.
Mississippi’s public school buildings are closed for the rest of the semester.
