Mississippi Valley State University could get money to renovate its student union building if a bond bill is signed into law.
The Mississippi House of Representatives passed a bond bill earlier this month that provides funding for various entities, including $86 million for capital projects at the state’s eight public universities. Of that money, $13.5 million would go to MVSU to expand the Jacob Aron Student Union, which serves as a hub for student activities.
The building also houses the university’s bookstore, post office and print shop.
The expansion would include “space for student services, recreational activities and large-scale meeting rooms,” Brittany Davis-Green, director of communications at MVSU, said in an email.
As of June 3, the bond bill was referred to the Finance Committee in the Senate.
The bond bill would go into effect June 30 if it becomes law.
