General Electric’s Capital Aviation Services will be the focus of a segment on “Mississippi Roads” on Mississippi Public Broadcasting on Thursday.
The seven-minute segment will air at 7 p.m. on WMAO, Channel 23 (antenna) and Channel 13 (Suddenlink). The program will be rebroadcast at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.
“It’s very good. I’ve seen the trailer,” said Cyndi Long, site operations manager of Asset Management Services.
GECAS’ operation in Greenwood is located at Greenwood-Leflore Airport. It is an aircraft disassembly facility, where aircraft are dismantled and the components are then resold for use worldwide.
Katie Savage, executive producer of “Mississippi Roads,” said the idea to spotlight GECAS came about seven years ago when she was talking with Allan Hammons, chief executive officer of Hammons & Associates, who is also a Greenwood-Leflore Airport history buff, for a segment on the airport’s role during World War II.
“I’ve always wanted to do a story about it,” Savage said.
The film crew visited in July or August and completed the shooting the footage, she said.
Hammons said GECAS operations are “a significant part of the airport.”
The finished segment had to be approved by GECAS’ corporate headquarters, which is located in Norwalk, Connecticut, prior to being aired, Savage said.
