Love is in the air.
And the winter issue of Leflore Illustrated focuses on the celebration of finding love and marriage with its 2019 Wedding Registry and wedding feature stories.
The Commonwealth’s quarterly magazine, featuring 48 glossy pages that highlight local people, places and events, is out today.
The annual Wedding Registry includes write-ups and photos of Greenwood-area couples who were married this past year.
Gracing the cover are Mr. and Mrs. Colin Patrick Finn of Nashville. Mrs. Finn is the former Mallory Nichole Jackson, a Pillow Academy graduate and the daughter of Charles and Kathy Jackson of Greenwood. The couple married on Nov. 9, 2018, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Nashville. Their write-up and photos appear on page 42.
The wedding stories include features on the Hemphills, who found love late in life; what makes a fun bachelor or bachelorette party; sisters Karyn Burrus and Kim Kellum of Grapevine Cakes, Catering and Floral; and couples who incorporated meaningful mementos into their weddings.
The issue also features the Simpson family’s Korean jindo dog, Paul, that they adopted after the dog was saved from the butcher’s knife by the animal rights group In Defense of Animals.
Margaret Howerton talks about tatting, a lacemaking technique she uses to create crosses, bracelets, earrings and other popular items.
In “All Aboard,” riding on the City of New Orleans train that comes through the Greenwood Amtrak station can be relaxing for many of the passengers. And Mere Austin Wilkey, a soccer-loving 9-year-old, is featured in Just Ask A Kid.
In a story focusing on unique front doors in the Greenwood area, Cyndi Savage, owner of Cyndi Savage Design, says selecting a front door is an opportunity for a homeowner to express personality.
The issue also features the North Greenwood home of Angie and Eddie Flowers, which is always open to their friends and family.
Leflore Illustrated includes personal columns from Tim Kalich, the Commonwealth’s editor and publisher, and Stephen Iwanski, manager of Turnrow Book Co.
The magazine concludes with photo spreads from Mississippi Valley State University’s homecoming activities, Christmas festivities, and New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Free copies of the magazine can be found at the Commonwealth, the Chamber of Commerce, the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Museum of the Mississippi Delta, the Greenwood-Leflore Public Library and dozens of businesses in the Greenwood area.
