State Sen. David Jordan, D-Greenwood, says unity is the message that is coming out of the Democratic National Convention as Hillary Clinton becomes the party’s nominee for president.
Clinton is scheduled to accept the nomination tonight in Philadelphia.
Jordan and Paulette Palmer are among 41 Mississippi delegates at the convention.
Jordan said Wednesday that the delegation had to get to the convention site, the Wells Fargo Center, early because President Barack Obama was speaking.
Jordan said former President Bill Clinton, who spoke Tuesday night after his wife was formally nominated, “provided a dynamic history of him and his wife.” Bill Clinton is a skilled politician who “knows everybody in the Delta,” Jordan said.
Palmer said the convention had gone quite well.
“The speakers have all been great,” she said.
She said she was particularly impressed by first lady Michelle Obama’s speech Monday night.
Philadelphia’s weather has mimicked the Delta’s with searing daytime temperatures in the 90s followed by brief showers, but “everything is rolling along pretty smoothly,” Jordan said.
Jordan predicted that any post-convention bounce Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump received will be gone very quickly.
A plan to make Mississippi competitive in the general election is also in the works, Jordan said.
“I ran into Jesse Jackson last night. He said he would be coming to Greenwood sometime in the fall,” Jordan said.
