For Treyvion Lewis of Vaiden, a trip to Disney World with his family was all he wanted.
Thanks to Make-A-Wish Mississippi, which helps children with life-threatening medical conditions get their wishes, he’ll get to take that trip — and he was given a memorable party Wednesday, too.
Treyvion, 7, was provided a “reveal party” at Greenwood-Leflore Airport with the help of 18 employees of GE Commercial Aviation Services of Greenwood and a host of other volunteers.
Cyndi Long, operations site manager for GECAS, said the employees provided $5,000 for the party.
Also helping with the event were Frank Kimmel of Kimmel Aviation Insurance and Bob Provine of Provine Helicopters, who provided several brief flights around Leflore County for Treyvion and his family and friends.
Judy Williams, director of operations and program services for Make-A-Wish Mississippi, said the average “wish” runs around $7,500, depending on the child’s taste. She declined to say what illness Treyvion has.
Treyvion and his family will be flown or be given a rental car to make the trip to Disney World. Once in Orlando, they’ll stay at “Give Kids the World,” a hotel specifically for Make-A-Wish families.
The thrill of flight was the theme for Wednesday’s party, which also featured cake and ice cream.
When Long asked Treyvion if he wanted to fly, the youngster seemed nervous, expressing concern that he might crash into a building. Still, he seemed to warm up to the idea of flight — his first in a plane and helicopter.
“This was my first time,” Treyvion said after exiting Kimmel’s Beechcraft Bonanza.
Kimmel and Provine made at least two trips each, giving Treyvion’s family and friends the experience.
Later, Treyvion was given a ride down the runway in a Leflore County Sheriff’s Department SUV driven at full speed by Deputy Len Wooden, with lights and siren blaring.
“I didn’t know how he would react, but he really enjoyed himself,” said his mother, Nekiya Lewis, who also was new to flight.
Throughout the flight, Treyvion could be heard on the plane’s intercom saying “Roger” instead of “yes” in answer to a question.
