CARROLLTON — Voting turnout was big and the results close in Carrollton Tuesday as citizens elected two new aldermen — Allan Lee and Lisa Shook.
There will not be a runoff, and those who garnered the most votes won, according to City Clerk Linda McGregor.
Lee got 64 votes, while Shook got 62. Paulette Gregg and Tommy Goodman received 58 and 55 respectively.
Carrollton has 160 registered voters, each of whom voted for two aldermen.
Townspeople have been divided in recent months over how much government they want, as one group wants to enact and carry out reasonable ordinances to preserve the historicity of the town. Another group wants little to no governmental authority over private property.
Gregg and Shook had been outspoken against the Certified Legal Government and ordinances about property use. Goodman and Lee have said they were for appropriate measures to maintain the town’s historic flavor.
The town’s limited finances have been a problem in carrying out ordinances, but resigning alderman Jerry Stanford said he believed the town could do more “if the will was there to do it.”
