Leflore Illustrated’s winter edition is now available.
This edition of the quarterly magazine focuses on 11 weddings in and around Greenwood.
The magazine boasts 66 pages of interesting people, places and events — both past and present — from all around Greenwood and Leflore County.
Inside the edition, you’ll meet Robert Gillespie, the chef and general manager of Delta Bistropub; Ethan Oltremari, the organizer of Revival on the River; and Dr. John Zheng, chair of the English and Foreign Language Department at Mississippi Valley State University, who has spent time chronicling the works of the late author Richard Wright.
Also, there is a tour of Captain William Ray’s home in Carrollton.
There are nostalgic looks at the annual Cotton Ball and at the late Charles Saunders, a Greenwood businessman who canoed down the Mississippi River in 1937 with two colleagues and setting a world record that would stand for decades.
Then there’s the love story of Dave and I.V. Freeman, a couple now married 59 years.
And get a glimpse of the evolving tradition of the engagement party, as well as photos from Art & Soul, Pillow Academy’s 50th anniversary celebration, Mississippi Valley State University’s homecoming, the Leflore County Courthouse lighting, the Roy Martin Delta Band Festival and Christmas Parade and two New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Finally, there’s a personal column by Steve Fortenberry, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church.
The magazine is published by the Commonwealth.
Copies are available for free at the Commonwealth and at businesses throughout Greenwood.
