One lane of Keesler Bridge will be closed for the better part of three days for an inspection beginning Wednesday.
The partial closing will last from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The engineering firm of Neel-Schaffer of Jackson will be conducting the inspection. It is checking all bridges in the state that are not under the control of the state Department of Transportation, said David Bowman, vice president of the firm.
Shortly before Christmas, the firm inspected Greenwood’s Veterans Bridge. Benny Herring, the director of the Greenwood Public Works Department, said the city did not receive an advance notice on that inspection and it caused complications in terms of traffic.
He said he requested advance notice for such work on any other bridges in the city, and Neel-Schaffer complied.
Bowman said the inspection will include examining bolts and connections both above and below Keesler Bridge’s roadway.
“It’s a necessary task,” Herring said.
He advised motorists to avoid the area from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
Flag personnel will direct traffic through the work area.
