CARROLLTON — Improving Internet access in Carroll County is just one of the projects the Carroll County Development Association will discuss during its annual meeting Monday.
The CCDA is an economic development group that promotes programs for improved quality of life and economic growth in the county.
The meeting will be held at Charlie Ray’s Grilled Groceries in Carrollton at 7 p.m., and the buffet meal costs $10.
One of the ongoing projects for the CCDA is improved broadband Internet access, led by the Community Beautification and Improvement Committee. Steve Anderson is in charge of the project, including researching wireless broadband access, and told the CCDA Board of Directors he is “optimistic about covering the county with wireless broadband.”
George Johnson, chairman of the board of directors, said the group is hoping for new members to sign up at the meeting and pay their $25 annual dues, as well as current members to re-enlist.
“We have about 60 or 70 members now, down from over 100 at one time,” he said.
“We will update everyone on the things we have done this year and discuss what we have planned for the upcoming year. We will also take suggestions for what we should emphasize this next year,” Johnson said.
Johnson said the education committee will be very busy this next year.
The speaker will be Jim Haffey, vice president of Holmes Community College at Grenada.
Board members will be elected at the meeting. Proposed board members are Johnson, Harry Hart, Grace Voorhees and Bernard Taylor.
