Greenwood’s annual Yuletide Trolley Ride and Citywide Open House, which begins Thursday night, is intended to help get the Christmas shopping season off to a good start.
“This year, for the first time, it’s a three-day event,” said Beth Stevens, executive director of the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event.
Trolleys will begin running at 5 p.m. Thursday, visiting participating merchants downtown and on West Park Avenue.
Stores will stay open until 8 p.m. Trolleys will run only on Thursday night.

In addition, she said, several stores will be offering light refreshments to those who visit them during the open house.
Those who make purchases at any of the participating merchants will also receive coupons good for 10 percent off meals Friday and Saturday at Delta Bistro, Sonic Drive-In, Flatland Grill, Pizza Inn, Veronica’s Bakery and Shoney’s.
On Saturday, the “Yuletide Prize Patrol” will be out presenting shoppers with “Chamber Bucks,” which can be spent the same as cash at participating merchants. The denominations of Chamber Bucks given away will vary from $10 to $50, depending on the luck of the draw.
