It was ladies night and the feeling was - cold.
But the women of Greenwood who braved the cooler weather for the first Girls Night Out Downtown on Thursday night were greeted by snacks, drinks and some good deals at every turn.
“We are excited about participating in the first Girls’ Night Out,” said Margie Barger, manager at The Melon Patch. “We had some different specials and hope we helped the women get a jump on their Christmas shopping.”
Despite a slim crowd, the women and merchants were in high spirits about the success of the event.
“I think this is a great idea,” said Joan Hamilton, who was shopping. “Christmas is a good time but I think other times during the year would be nice.”
Charlotte Robertson of Greenwood enjoyed an evening of food, fun and most importantly friends.
“This is a chance for the girls in our community to come together and socialize,” Robertson said.
It wasn’t just the shoppers who were enjoying each other’s company; the business owners and employees spent the evening helping and socializing with customers.
“Any chance we get to host the women of Greenwood, we enjoy,” said Rachael Tackett, owner of Rachael’s. “We like helping them shop and getting them ready for the holidays, but we also enjoy spending time with them.”
Main Street Greenwood sponsored the event as an opportunity for women to fill out Christmas wish lists.
Main Street will host a Guys’ Night Out Dec. 17, in which men can check out their special someone’s wish list.
“I think it went really well for the first year,” said Cindy Tyler, owner of Mississippi Gift Co. “I think most women just enjoyed the night away from their children and husbands.”
