The Greenwood-Leflore Young Professionals will host a free homebuyers seminar at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in The Alluvian’s Delta Room.
This event is sponsored by the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce, which also sponsors the Young Professionals.
Beth Stevens, executive director of the chamber, said the event will be an opportunity for those who are in the process of buying a home or are thinking about it.
The seminar will include a panel of four local Realtors who will cover topics such as financing options, the do’s and don’ts, down payments, what to look for in a house, what is affordable, when it’s time to sell and how to navigate taxes. Tish Goodman of Bowie Realty, Pam Powers of Powers Properties, Mel Harris of E&H Realty, and Betty DuBard of DuBard Realty will be the panelists.
Stevens said she and Miller Arant, president of the Greenwood-Leflore Young Professionals, will lead the seminar and ask the panel questions. The audience will also have an opportunity to ask questions.
Stevens said the idea came about after she heard about another chamber of commerce hosting something similar. She and Arant thought it would be a great event to host for young professionals who are usually at point in their life to consider being homeowners.
“A lot of young professionals — and even not young professionals — don’t really understand the whole process of how to purchase a home,” Arant said. “There are all these different things that go into it.”
Arant said it’s a great opportunity for people to have the chance to speak one on one with realtors.
Light hors d’oeuvres will be served, and there will be a cash bar.
