The mother of a 26-year-old Greenwood man who has been missing since Monday is asking for help in locating her son.
Shirley Coleman said she last saw her son, Curtis James Coleman, when she left to go to the store Monday morning around 11:30.
When she got back, her sister told her that Curtis had walked out of the house, located at 1003 Strong Ave. in Greenwood. A neighbor noticed him walking in the direction of downtown and the Old Greenwood Cemetery.
Coleman is African American with light complexion and stands 6 foot 1 inch tall and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black polyester hooded zip-up jacket, a black T-shirt emblazoned with a green skull, dark jeans and black tennis shoes.
His mother said he was wearing white headphones but had left his iPod at home.
Coleman suffers from schizophrenia, for which he receives medication. His mother said he sometimes becomes disoriented and has gone missing once before, during a visit to relatives in Texas in November.
During that visit, local police picked him up and placed him in a mental hospital.
This time, his mother said he may have again become confused.
“He possibly forgot where he’s at,” Shirley Coleman said. “He’s real nice. He doesn’t bother anybody.”
The family is asking anyone who may have seen Curtis or has information on his current whereabouts to call Shirley Coleman at 644-5088 or the Greenwood Police Department.
