Moving to Greenwood can be an adjustment for someone used to the hustle and bustle of a big city, but Desiree Dosanjh, the new director of the Alluvian Spa, has found that small-town life agrees with her.
Dosanjh, 33, relocated from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., about four weeks ago and has enjoyed a warm reception so far.
“Everyone’s been really hospitable and friendly,” Dosanjh said.
Dosanjh, a licensed esthetician, has worked in the spa industry for 13 years. She worked at the Boca West Country Club and Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa, both in Boca Raton, Fla., served as a spa director in Vail, Colo., and also worked for Pevonia, a company that produces one of the leading skin-care lines for spas.
WTS International, which runs the Alluvian Spa and is a leading management company in the spa industry, asked Dosanjh if she would like to relocate to Mississippi. Between its connection to WTS and its affiliation with Viking Range Corp., she thought working at the Alluvian Spa would be a great opportunity.
With all her experience in the business, Dosanjh has definitely seen her share of spas, and she said the Alluvian facility is up to par with any of the upscale metropolitan spas she’s visited.
“The spa is top-notch. The staff is great,” Dosanjh said.
She loves that every detail in the spa — from the decor to the cottonseed massage oil — was carefully thought out to make it a unique Delta experience.
She also has been impressed with the care and effort that Fred and Margaret Carl and Viking Range Corp. have put into revitalizing the community.
“The way that Viking has the town set up I thought was amazing,” Dosanjh said.
Dosanjh said she is still not quite used to the slower pace of life in Greenwood, but she has been keeping busy meeting people and trying new things.
Dosanjh, who is single, has been living in the Alluvian Lofts. Soon she will move into her new rental house, which she is particularly excited about because now Jordan, her black Lab, will finally be able to come up from Florida to join her.
Outside of work, some of her favorite activities include horseback riding and sailing. She also acquired a taste for snowboarding while attending school abroad in Switzerland and later working in Colorado, but how will she keep that up here in the Delta?
“That’s what vacations are for, I guess,” Dosanjh said.
