The Greenwood school district is showing improvement on pre-tests as it prepares for crucial state exams, Superintendent Margie Pulley reported to the School Board Tuesday.
“We feel like we’ve had a good year,” she said. “These last six weeks, seven weeks of school are what we work for all year because testing is what it’s all about.”
Subject area tests for high school students will be the week of April 26. The MCT2 exams will begin May 9.
Results determine the state rankings for the district and individual schools. The district is currently ranked “Successful,” the third-highest ranking in Mississippi’s seven-level scale.
Students from third grade through 12th grade took comprehensive pre-tests last week.
Analysis of those results shows that the district is doing “extremely well” in some areas but still has work to do in others, Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Wilson said.
She said the district is focusing on teaching objectives that are needed based on that data.
“We are, I guess, attacking those last few weaknesses that we see,” Pulley said.
The district will host an academic tournament for high school students on Monday and elementary school students on Tuesday. Wilson said parents are being encouraged to attend, and it’s a way of stressing the importance of state assessments to them.
Administrators are also meeting with teachers in large and small groups to prepare for tests, Wilson said.
